Check Your ISP for Carnivore

Please do us and yourself a favor by contacting your ISP right now, and asking them what their "Carnivore policy" is. We would love to begin listing various ISPs' compliance with or refusal of Carnivore- but we need your help. Call or e-mail your ISP right now, and post the results in our forum area, or e-mail me at lance@freedom2008.com with them. You can view our very short list of "Carnivore-free" ISPs here.

Please read below for tips on what to ask your ISP when you talk to them. We will be issuing a public request to all ISPs to volunteer their Carnivore status soon...but we expect that the best results will come from customer inquiries on the subject. This means you!

Is your ISP using Carnivore? Will they use it if ordered by the FBI?

Call and find out! When you speak with them, address the following points:

  • Ask them if they are aware of Carnivore, the FBI's ISP spy tool. They most likely are. If they aren't take a moment to inform them.
  • Ask if the FBI has ever requested that Carnivore be installed on their system, and if so, when and under what terms? They will most likely not want to answer this. Tell them that it is very important that you know this information, and that you and other customers will be demanding answers until they are delivered.
  • If they say they haven't been asked by the FBI, or they refuse to answer, ask them whether their policy is to allow devices such as Carnivore to be installed by third parties such as the FBI. They will probably try to avoid answering that also. Tell them you need to know their policy on Carnivore- will they use it if asked or not? If they say they will not, ask for a copy of that policy in writing.
  • If they say that their policy allows use of Carnivore, say that you want a copy of it in writing. Also say that you will be switching to an ISP that does not allow Carnivore as soon as you find one.
  • Tell them you will be posting your findings at our Feedback Area, and that a list of ISPs who comply with or oppose Carnivore is being compiled on the web. Tell them which category they will be listed under, and let them know that they can call me (Lance Brown, founder, StopCarnivore.org- 530-639-1213) if they have any questions or wish to have their status changed.
  • Once you have gotten all the information you can, thank them for their time, and tell them that they can avoid all this trouble by going to StopCarnivore.org to help defeat Carnivore once and for all!
  • If you finished with your ISP, but want to call more, e-mail us with your phone number, and we'll call you so we can coordinate your message and who you will call. Or, just call them and let us know what you find out. There are a lot of ISPs in the U.S., but we can probably get most of them done if we try hard enough!
When you find out where your ISP stands, go to our Feedback Area (hosted by PeoplesForum.com) and post your findings, or e-mail me (lance@freedom2008.com) with them! We will begin compiling the results as soon as they come in.

Carnivore-Free ISPs

Report Your ISP's "Carnivore Status" here
(forums hosted by PeoplesForum.com)

There are two benefits to calling your ISP:

1. You can find out if your privacy is being invaded by the FBI.

2. Your ISP will be forced to take a stand on this issue, and may be motivated to take action to help defeat Carnivore, for their own sake.

If you have a large ISP (AOL, MSN, etc.) this step is especially important.
There are over 100 million U.S. customers at large ISPs who deserve to know if they are being spied on by their Government.
Plus, the pressure and influence that a large ISP can exert on Government to mend its ways , and upon its customers to take action, is very substantial.
